Bio
Marshall P. Bartlett was
born in New York, New York. He is a member of the bar in New
York and Texas. Marshall began his practice in the Tax
Group at Sullivan & Cromwell in 1969. In 1977, he
joined Satterlee & Stevens and became a Partner of this
firm in 1978.
On January 1, 1979, Marshall became
the tax manager of Exxon Enterprises, Inc. For the next
22 years he held positions of increasing responsibility in the
Exxon tax organization in New York, Houston and Florham Park,
New Jersey. From 1989 to 2000, Marshall served as
General Tax Counsel of Exxon Company, International.
Beginning in September of
1999 and continuing to date, Marshall has taught tax courses
in the MS in Taxation Program at Fairleigh Dickinson
University in Madison, New Jersey. These include a three
course in depth series in the U.S. Taxation of International
Income and a new course designed by Marshall and a
colleague for employees of US multinational corporations.
This course covers the basic of the foreign tax credit rules,
subpart F and transfer pricing. In addition, Marshall
teaches two corporate tax courses, one in
Reorganizations and one in Consolidated Returns.
From 1978 to
1982 Marshall was an Articles Editor and then the Managing
Editor of The Tax Lawyer, the publication of the Tax
Section of the American Bar Association. He has
published two articles in The Tax Lawyer on the subjects
of leasehold improvements and Section 338(h)(10).
